The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is the standard way AI tools connect to the products you already use. Once connected, ChatGPT can help you read, create, and manage work inside BasicOps directly from a conversation. This makes it faster to capture tasks, check project status, and share updates without context switching.
What you'll need
- A BasicOps account (any plan, no upgrade required)
- A ChatGPT account (Plus, Team, Enterprise, or Education plan)
This article will show you how to:
- Add BasicOps as a connector in ChatGPT
- Authorize BasicOps
- Use BasicOps in a conversation
- Verify the connection with a few example prompts
- Troubleshooting
Add BasicOps as a connector
- In ChatGPT, navigate to Settings → Apps
- Scroll to the bottom and open Advanced settings → (the arrow)
- Enable Developer mode (if not already enabled)
- Go back to Settings → Apps and click Create
- Fill in the connector details:
- Connector name: BasicOps
- Description: Manage projects, tasks, and messages in BasicOps
- Connector URL:
https://app.basicops.com/mcp
- Click Create
Authorize BasicOps
After creating the connector, you'll be redirected to BasicOps to sign in and approve access. Select Allow to complete authorization. If the connection succeeds, you'll see a list of the tools BasicOps provides. If you have multiple accounts, select the account you want to authorize.
Use BasicOps in a conversation
- Open a new chat in ChatGPT
- Click the + button near the message composer, then click More
- Select BasicOps from the list of available tools
- Start prompting — ChatGPT will now be able to use BasicOps tools in the conversation
ChatGPT will display tool-call details in the chat so you can confirm inputs and outputs. Write actions will require manual confirmation unless you choose to remember approvals for the conversation.
Verify the connection with a few example prompts
- "List all my projects"
- "Create a task in [project name] to review the homepage copy, due Friday"
- "Post a message in the Marketing channel: kickoff moved to 2pm"
- "What changed across my projects today?"
Troubleshooting
I see "access token expired" errors.
Go to Settings → Apps & Connectors, click into the BasicOps connector, and choose Refresh. You may be prompted to re-authorize.
ChatGPT can't find my project.
Make sure the project is not archived. Try "List all my projects" to see what is visible.
I don't see the Create button.
Make sure Developer mode is enabled under Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings.
Can I connect multiple workspaces?
Each connector is tied to one BasicOps workspace. To switch, remove the connector and create a new one with a different workspace login.
